Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam

Discover how Van Gogh became inspired by Rembrandt and how that inspiration showed in his work and his process. This immersive show lets you hear Van Gogh’s admiration for Rembrandt through his own words, which he wrote down in letters to his brother Theo. At the same time, you’ll be surrounded by the artwork of these two great Dutch masters, as it comes to live on the walls and ceiling of the Noorderkerk.

This unique experience in Amsterdam, takes you on a visual journey. During the show you can choose to relax on a beanbag, sit in a church pew or wander around the church. Both artists visited the Noorderkerk when they lived in Amsterdam, Rembrandt only a few years after it had opened and Van Gogh more than 200 years later.

  • See a 40-minute visual show narrated by Van Gogh
  • Art comes to live all around you in the church
  • Become as inspired as Van Gogh was by Rembrandt

Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam is the first immersive show to be displayed on such a scale inside a national monument. The show uses the entire interior of the Noorderkerk, from the walls to the brim, as its setting creating a 360° moving canvas. During the show, you’ll be surrounded by sunflowers, angels, and blossoms, all reflecting the deep influence Rembrandt had on Vincent van Gogh.

The combination of a monumental building and a state-of-the-art experience makes for a unique attraction in Amsterdam. Because the Noorderkerk is still a functioning church, there are no shows on Sunday. But the rest of the week, you can visit this extraordinary show and let yourself be inspired by the works of Van Gogh and Rembrandt.
